The Urban Advantage Science Initiative began in 2004 when 8 of NYC’s cultural institutions joined together with the NYC Department of Education to bring cutting edge science education to classrooms in grades 6-8 across the city. Partnered with The Museum of Natural History, The Hall of Science, The Brooklyn Botanic Garden, New York Botanic Garden, The Queens Botanical Garden, The Bronx Zoo, New Your Aquarium and The Staten Island Zoo teachers engage in high quality professional development aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards and the NYS P-12 Science Learning Standards . Partner institutions support family engagement in the sciences by providing Family Day events each fall and student vouchers that provide free admission to each of the cultural institutions for the student and 3 family members.
